There are three beautiful dogs waiting to be adopted in the shelter in Cancun. Lala reminds us of our beloved Mali, also an adopted malix (Mayan for mixed breed) from the street. Lala, like Mali was originally, is a little bit guarded, but loveable and looking to be loved. Angelo is a total love… friendly, approachable and easy to be with. Raul is a big, cute, gangly dog… loves to play ball and has tons of energy.

If we could, we’d adopt all of them… aren’t they beautiful? They have been at the shelter for awhile, under great care. As you can see, they are healthy, have all their shots and they are ready to love and be loved!

Remember, if you want one of these dogs but don’t live in Mexico, don’t despair. It is easy to take them back to the States… just get in touch with RAP (see below) and they will tell you how.

And now, an important message for you dog lovers here in Mexico…

Kennels and/or Donations Needed!

The expats in Cancun want to let you all know that RAP in Cancun has a need for donated kennels right now! They have a number of dogs at the shelter that have homes promised to them in the US, but they do not have enough airline-approved kennels to send them all to their new homes.

These doggies’ adoptions are being delayed because of a lack of good quality kennels.

So if you have an airline-approved kennel for a medium or large dog, which is in good shape, please consider donating it to us. Or if you are looking for someway to make a difference this Christmas, consider donating enough money so they can go buy a kennel. You’ll make a big difference in a dog’s (and a family’s) life!. If you would like to donate MONEY for a kennel, that would be wonderful. Since RAP doesn’t have it’s own Paypal account (yet!), you can donate to either paypal [at] magnoliawebs [dot] com on Paypal or donate through this affiliated group’s website, www.islaanimals.org/donations.asp, and specify that your donation is to go to buying a kennel. Either way, the money will get there! Want to know how much to donate? The jaulas (kennels) vary by size and quality. A decent airline-approved kennel for a medium sized dog (which is the size of dog that is typically rescued from the streets here) will run between $1000 and $2000 MXP ($75 to $150 US). Costco charges around $1000 MXP for them but doesn’t always have them in stock. Pet stores charge more than Costco, but generally have them in stock. Any amount that you can donate will be greatly appreciated!
