Cheryl,
As a fellow art collector, I would advise that you NOT bring any precious art to an open-air house along the coast. The moist, salt-laden air is very harsh on many things, and I cannot imagine it would treat oil paintings well. Why not use the trip as an opportunity to buy some local art for your walls? Every Sunday on Paseo de Montejo, local artists display their work for sale starting at about 10 in the morning until about 1 pm. It's a great way to meet some of them and pick up some art for your beach house that is more appropriate to the area.

I will be moving to Progreso this year. I will have a home with a/c but the home will be open to the elements 75% of the time. I have alot of oil paintings. I have read that oils will not hold up in the humidity and heat. Does anyone know if this is correct. They are expensive pieces so I do not want to chance damage.
