As an ex new yorker visual artist, living at this time in Arizona, a stone throw away from the mexican border, I wonder how can I set a base in Merida, as my options here right now for finding " peace of mind" in getting back to the creative process seem very slim. If Paul Gaugain made it to Tahiti ,out of the city of lights , is there any hope in the Yucatan to start life all over again, in the most modest way and definitely not chasing any rainbows.
Open minded !
Thanks.

My wife and I met Doug and Robin on our recent trip to Merida (last Nov). They are a beautiful couple and we enjoyed visiting with them. They have both feet on the ground and very centered. They made us feel welcome and we are anxious to return to Merida and see them again.

What a handsome poet you all have on your hands in Merida! A wonderful article, great questions. I'm guessing there might be one part with which Doug might disagree: that Detroit is "a place on the planet not known for its poetic nature". Bravo, and thanks for the spotlight on Doug.
