Date: June 29, 2010 at 12:00PM
Admission: Free
Description:
This fiesta is in honor of San Pedro Abad, patrono del pueblo. Samahil is home to a very young, multi-talented group of indigenous teens who live in school shelters and hostels in Chemax, Samahil, Yaxcopoil, and San Antonio Sodzil. Since 2005, the National Commission for the Development of Indigenous Peoples has been funding Indigenous Digital Information Centers, where they teach information management and communication technology!
If you like rodeos, Samahil is a great area to visit, although we have to laugh a bit when we hear that Samahil is a “sleepy little rodeo town.” It reminds us of still hearing that Progreso is a “sleepy little fishing village.” If you want to visit Samahil in the Spring, watch our calendar for news of when the Virgin of Tetiz and the Love of Christ from Kinchil will be passing through Samahil on their way to Hunucma. This little town seems to be on the way to everywhere in Yucatan and it is always busy with plenty of artisans and craftsmen in all directions.
