Only four blocks from Merida’s colorful central plaza and two blocks from Parque Santa Lucia, Casa Gloria is a renovated colonial home with three large bedrooms, a casita, four baths and a swimming pool. Casa Gloria is a place of peace and simple luxury, with high ceilings, original pasta-tiled floors, and an Art Deco feel that bespeaks Merida’s historic French influence. It is an ideal base of operations for a relaxed Merida vacation for groups of four to seven.

Entering from the street, you are immediately surrounded by a blend of old world beauty and modern amenities. The dramatic entrance hallway flows into a spacious outdoor sala (living room), and on into a shady central courtyard, open to the sky yet cooled by mature tropical trees.

 

A modern media room with large flat-panel TV (complete with English-language channels) and comfortable leather furniture leads into a splendid master suite plus two more large bedrooms, both of which open onto the courtyard. The casita is a small, freestanding private guest house with a foldout futon for sleeping.

 

Entertaining at Casa Gloria is a joyful enterprise centering around the colorful, fully-equipped kitchen, which opens onto the pool area, covered patio and adjacent dining room with its stained glass windows and French doors. The large pool with salt filtration system will be your oasis as you soak up the sun—then blend up the Margaritas, turn on the lights and savor the tropical night, amid the fragrant breeze and the overarching royal palm trees.

 

Two newly renovated bathrooms serve the front of the house; two more bathrooms, linked by a stone-walled outdoor shower, are in the pool area and casita. All plumbing in the house is upgraded to high North American standards; the UV filtration system means that the water is safe to drink throughout the house. All rooms have efficient, modern ceiling fans; the media room and three bedrooms each have their own air-conditioning units. There is also a laundry room with washer and dryer.

 

The house is served by its own WiFi network, so you can be both on vacation and online at the same time. House rental also includes use of Amigo local cell phone. Stereo/CD player with iPod hookup is in the dining room cabinet. We have a local, bilingual property manager available to meet guests and for emergencies.

Fall in Love With Historic Merida

In the TV room you will find a Casa Gloria binder with information on favorite restaurants, day trips, and getting around in Merida and the Yucatan. Great restaurants are literally a few steps away. You can amble to Merida’s zocalo (central plaza) in five minutes, passing along the way museums, the opera house, theatres, restaurants, and merchants of all kinds. The Merida English Library, Santa Lucia Park, and the great central market are all within easy walking distance. There are incredible adventures and day-trips in every direction—Chichen Itza, Uxmal and the Ruta Puc, Dzibilchaltun, Izamal, Progreso and Celestun are easily reachable by taxi, bus or rental car. If you rent a car, safe parking is available in the parking lot next door.

Merida and the Yucatan Peninsula are full of fascinating sights, sounds and pleasures…and Casa Gloria is right in the heart of it all.

Six charming Merida apartments, each one unique, were created from a gorgeous Art Deco centro historico building on popular Calle 66, just around the corner from the Merida English Library. 

The first two apartments occupy the original antique construction.  The four back apartments are totally new construction, but designed and built to meld seamlessly with the original construction.

Each apartment is decorated with beautiful pasta tile floors, a combination of comfortable antique and custom-designed furniture, luxurious textiles and beautiful artwork. 

There are completely stocked kitchens with dishwashers, granite countertops and every modern convenience.

Apartment #1 is conveniently located at the front of the building.  It has a unique breakfast room which overlooks the tropical garden and pool areas. 

The master bedroom of Apartment #1 is tucked quietly at the rear of the apartment and has a king-sized bed.  The guest bedroom has twin beds for more versatility.  Each bedroom has lots of closet space and a private bath.

Apartment #2 is conveniently located at the front of the building and is the largest of our units.  It includes a huge garden terrace overlooking the street and a unique indoor/outdoor shower. Two bedrooms both have bathrooms. The sunny kitchen and living room open onto the terrace, and the formal dining area is surrounded by mirrors.

Apartment #3 is a 1-bedroom unit with a covered terrace that opens from the living room.  It overlooks the pool and gardens.  The bedroom of Apartment #3 is tucked at the rear of the apartment for extra privacy and has a queen-sized bed.  There is a great bonus dressing area and walk in closet.

Apartment #4 is also a 1-bedroom unit. This apartment has a wonderful open great room, connecting the living room, dining room and kitchen, and a covered balcony which opens off the living room.  It overlooks the pool and gardens.  The bedroom of Apartment #4 is tucked at the rear of the apartment for extra privacy and has a queen-sized bed, with a dressing area and walk in closet.

Apartment #5 is one of our 2-bedroom units.  It has a wonderful open feel great-room concept and a covered terrace which opens from off the living room.  It overlooks the pool and gardens, but is tucked in the back corner of the complex for extra privacy.  The master bedroom of Apartment #5 is has a queen-sized bed, while the guestroom has twin beds for extra versatility.  Each bedroom has a private bath with a surprise garden shower.  As with all of our units, there is lots of built-in closet space.

Apartment #6 is one of our 2-bedroom units.  It has a wonderful open feel great-room concept and a covered terrace which opens from off the living room.  It overlooks the pool and gardens, but is tucked in the back corner of the complex for extra privacy and almost seems to float in the trees.  The huge master bedroom of Apartment #6 is has a queen-sized bed, while the guestroom has twin beds for extra versatility.  Each bedroom has a private bath with a surprise garden shower.  As with all of our units, there is lots of built-in closet space and the master also has an enormous walk-in closet.

The six apartments wrap around a well landscaped tropical garden and tiled lap pool.  Each has wi-fi internet and cable television.  Weekly maid service with change of linens is included.  Covered parking is available at a nearby private parking garage with an additional charge.

There is nothing left to wish for… this renovated colonial house in Merida Centro truly has it all.  This is a large house on a small footprint;  one of those special secrets, which hides its rare beauty behind a simple facade.  Mexico, and Merida especially, is famous for that… you never know what you will find behind the most humble wall or doorway.

In this case, from the street you will see what appears to be a small home.  Once through that doorway, you are transported to another world; one where every detail has been meticulously thought out and executed to perfection. 

You enter from the quiet street into a large, airy room which contains both the formal living room and formal dining room.  Go deeper into the house and you will find that there are multiple living and dining spaces, each of which will probably see much more use than the more formal ones at the front of the house.  Planning on throwing parties?  There is plenty of room for a large crowd to spread out and enjoy themselves throughout the house and grounds.

This kitchen is fully equipped and features marble counter tops, all stainless appliances (including dishwasher and wine cooler), potable water faucet at the sink, lots of storage, even a pantry, breakfast bar, a built in mirrored-back bar (the bartender can work out of the cook’s way), all small appliances, dishware and glassware.

You can choose your master bedroom, as there are two.  The first is downstairs with a gorgeous view of the covered patio and down the length of the garden to the pool and beyond.  Of course, it has an en suite full bath and walk in closet.  The master bedroom upstairs has its own covered terrace with private sitting area, and another en suite full bath. This one has a tub and walk in closet.  There is a guest room upstairs also has a full bath and a large terrace overlooking the street. 

Upstairs, by way of a lovely, easy-to-navigate stairway, you will also find another living space, this one with TV and WIFI internet.  This area also includes a rarity in many of the rental homes in Merida… comfortable chairs and a sofa for relaxing.  We predict this light airy space will be a favorite hang-out for one and all.

Merida is all about outdoor living, and in this home outdoor spaces abound.  Whether you want to be upstairs and downstairs, you can choose a space for privacy or choose a space to share with family and friends. There is a special spot (or maybe two or three) for everyone. 

Share a morning coffee on the upstairs terrace with your love or a full breakfast on the downstairs terrace with guests.  Read a book on the garden bench or swim in the tiled pool.  Take afternoon snacks and drinks to enjoy under the loggia at the end of the garden and gaze down the length of your lap pool back toward the house.

Villa by the Sea in Puerto Abrigo, Telchac

 

Five minutes from Telchac Puerto you will find Telchac Playa, a beautiful vacation rental beach home, which was recently professionally remodeled and updated.

This 2 bedroom, 2 bath seaside villa overlooks a full size, in-ground pool with a breathtaking view of the ocean.  The interiors are finely appointed with artwork and all the amenities you need and want in a fine beach home. The open-plan living room, dining room, kitchen and terrace all over look the sea.

Picture yourself mixing up a batch of Margaritas in the lovely white kitchen.  It is fully equipped with dish washer, microwave, fine china, linens, wine glasses and everything needed to prepare a gourmet meal or casual beach fare.  Nothing has been overlooked.

Wake up in the master suite to a wonderful view of the sea.  Enjoy the queen-size bed, bureau, desk, and complete bath. The guest bedroom has a bureau, desk and private bath as well with 2 double-sized beds, just right for friends and family. There are, of course, ceiling fans throughout.

Many guests spend most of their stay on the large terrace.  The fresh sea breezes make it a comfortable place to be almost all the time:  the perfect Escondido or hideaway.  It is very comfortably furnished with white wood furniture with upholstered cushions and hammocks for reading and relaxing. The white sand beach is perfect for long beach walks and the gentle surf is perfect for safe swimming and snorkeling. This is the Gulf of Mexico!

If you can tear yourself away from the delightful terrace, Telchac Puerto, only five minutes up the beach, has stores for fruit and vegetable shopping and basic groceries, a bakery, seafood restaurants and a clinic. The town plaza is charming and has a park with a children’s play area.  This fantastic rental home is only a half block from the Marina Luna which is home to quaint fishing boats and the Flamingo Lakes Yacht basin.  Boats are available for rent by the day or half day to take you fishing, or there is a fish co-operative, where you can buy the freshest of the day’s catch for your seafood dinners, if you prefer to leave the fishing to others.

Want a little pampering?  The Reef Yucatan Resort, a fantastic 5 star hotel, is just across the canal.  Day passes are available at reasonable prices should you like to take advantage of their great restaurant and exclusive facilities. It is all inclusive.

A car is not absolutely necessary, but it would add to your enjoyment of the area. There are buses should you prefer public transportation.
