We live in Playa del Carmen, and last winter we attended a very nice Opera night at the Teatro and enjoyed a wonderful performance by the Yucatan Orchestra. And the previous seasons as well? I am a patron along with other snowbirds. When I ask at the ticket counters, the agents look at me as if I am from another planet and have no clue what is coming. I got the same communication last year and the year before that. When the orchestra finally gets it all together, I very much enjoy the concerts and the way they play together, the tuning and musicality. Snowbirds seem to make up 50% or more of the audience. I know the conductor is fluent in English yet not a word of thanks or welcome is ever spoken in English. Currently I am living in Progreso and will be here until the end of March.
