It is a beautiful zoo. It has too many animals. I dont think the animals live in bad conditions. I do think some of the cages should be bigger, but anywway I like it a lot. It is a very diferent thing comparete with the zoos in USA, so then dont forget to visit it.

I found the Merida zoo by chance, one day; while exploring the city. I agree that it represents an older era of zoo-building, with cages. But the management nevertheless does a creditable job maintaining a genuinely charming place and trying to keep it up to date. The zoo was a highlight of a marvelous visit to Yucatan, and I would eagerly return to the zoo on a subsequent trip to the Merida. It's not the most exciting or biggest or most amazing zoo in the world. But it's definitely a lovely introduction to the real world of a beguiling Mexican city and its friendly people.

i visited the zoo several times. i was in the hurricane Isodoro. This is when the zoo was practically destroyed. Thanks to the qiick relief and help from la guardia as well as the people of Merida, the zoo's ability to reopen amidst the 'ruins' was heartwarming. I greatly appreciated the great effort(s) made by the staff and citizens who were dedicated to bringing back to life this wonderful zoo. I saw no harm being done to any of the 'residents' of the Centennial Zoo and the conditions were improving after the damage was done due to the hurricane. The prices were not an issue as we(my 15mo.old son and I and my husband) were quite pleased with everything. Actually it was a humbling experience; as we were looking for diversions in the aftermath of the storm. I was saddened to hear about the animals that were lost due to the storm.
