2005

<i>"Hurricane Wilma was the most intense hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic basin. Wilma was the twenty-second storm (including the subtropical storm discovered in reanalysis), thirteenth hurricane, sixth major hurricane, and fourth Category 5 hurricane of the record-breaking 2005 season (the previous record for storms in a single season was held by the 1933 season.)"</i> Courtesy of wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Wilma

Hurricane Dean struck the Majajual / Xcalak area in 2007.
Hurricane Emily also struck Cozumel and Yucatan in 2005.
Hurricane Isidore struck Merida directly in 2002.

thanks for the update on the area south of Cancun. our fav little island, Isla Mujeres seems to be doing well. I saw in Por Esto newspaper that hotels on Isla were almost full over the holidays. i hope only that low airfare prices make the area more available to those from the north, thanks again for a great report!!
