Art on a Sunday… Bring the Kids!

Alexandra and John Wallner will be hosting an exhibit of their original illustrations of children’s books right here in Merida, Yucatan. These two are award-winning illustrators who have recently moved to Merida (read their interview).

They have designed this event as a fund raiser for the St. Vincent de Paul’s children in Merida. The money they raise selling their artwork will go to buy these children a special holiday lunch.

The exhibition of artwork will be on Sunday, December 10th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Los Pioneros, a new little cafe you might have overlooked. It’s on the ground floor of that big white building at the corner of Calle 47 and Calle 58, in the Centro, stuck between the Pemex at Parque Santa Ana and Paseo de Montejo. (In case you get lost, the telephone number is 925-1586).

This event is for adults and children. There will be book readings and demonstration drawing by los maestros (the masters), as well as a space for children to draw and color themselves. In addition, there will be original illustrations by the Wallners exhibited and available for sale.

This Sunday, hop on your bicycle or walk the Bici-Ruta to the beginning of Paseo Montejo and drop in at the art exhibit, and buy some original art! What a lovely way to spend a Sunday!

  1. We are very much looking forward to the event on sunday, what a wonderful idea! We are also very excited to see all the artwork, Alexandra and John are such great artists as well as incredible loving, warm-hearted and down to earth people.

We wish them, the kids and the adults a wonderful and successful day on sunday. So hopefully see you all there!

  2. best wishes on the fund raiser. I’ve seen many of the pobres, many are children who need ayudar.

  3. We went to the show. I bought an illustration, the prices were a true bargain. I watched John do a drawing with a group of kids, he would ask questions like “what size ears?” the kids decided on the features and he drew them. A good time was had by all.
