Yucatan Living American Children’s Choir Comes to Yucatan
As part of the Fall Cultural Festival, the "Voci Pure" Choir, of Renaissance School, in California, will give two performances in Yucatan. This is an excellent chance to come out and meet these children. We would like for their memories of Yucatan to be as rich and varied as possible.

(U.S., 2007) Quentin Tarantino. This is a Robert Rodriguez movie, so it is guaranteed to be excellent! This is two full length feature horror movies written by Quentin Tarantino & Robert Rodriguez and put together as a two film feature. Including fake movie trailers in between both movies. Stars Cheech Marin, Danny Trejo, Rose McGowan, and Josh Brolin.

This Rupert Julian film was made in 1925 and stars Lon Chaney. It is a silent movie and one that everyone who loves this story should see. They don’t come more classic than this.

This 1936 movie has it all: A Barbary Coast saloonkeeper and a Nob Hill impresario are rivals for the affections of a beautiful singer, both personally and professionally in 1906 San Francisco. …and a cast that includes Clark Gable, Jeanette MacDonald, and Spencer Tracy in the role of – of course – a priest! Don’t miss this one!

Yucatan Living Cinema: Taxi Driver
This 1976 Martin Scorsese film is also still a favorite. Stars include Robert De Niro, Jodie Foster, Albert Brooks, Harvey Keitel, Leonard Harris, Peter Boyle and Cybill Shepherd. A mentally unstable Vietnam war veteran works as nighttime taxi driver in a city whose perceived decadence and sleaze feeds his urge to violently lash out, attempting to save a teenage prostitute in the process. Nominated for 4 Oscars, had 18 wins and 9 more nominations. Must be Martin Scorsese week!

This week, the symphony welcomes Guest Director Cesar Ivan Lara, with soloist Alexander Ovcharov on oboe. The program includes two pieces by Mendelssohn and one (from Concierto para Oboe en D Major) by Haydn.

Yucatan Living Yoga and Hindu Master Visits MeridaShashi Yoga Master in Merida
Shashi Dhar Dimri, a native of the Himalayas and son of Brahmin parents, brings a unique perspective to the study of the philosophic traditions of India. He will conduct a day-long session to enrich the personal practice for yoga students and teachers. Dimri is a Master of Hindu philosophy at the Yoga Center of Mexico and formerly has taught in India in various schools. He is founder and member of the Intereligious Community in Mexico, representing Hinduism.  Dimri is a native Brahmin of Dimmar, India, a small village near the Tibetan border and former monastic student of theology.  The talk will be in English, with Spanish translation.

Yucatan Living 6th World Convention of Chile: Oct. 25, 26, and 27
Since Yucatan has the plant DNA to prove it is the home of the habanero, it is only fitting that the Chile Convention be held here. To celebrate, ICY is sponsoring a contest that includes paintings and photographs of chilies. You must have your entries in by Oct. 22 to qualify. The prize in each category is $30,000 pesos.

Brazos Abiertos Inc (501-c3 US non profit) (Foundation BAI) will be holding its 3rd Annual Fall Event, Silent Auction & Fashion Show, featuring the Spring Summer 2010 Collection by Alexei. The proceeds of this event will go to support education related to sexually transmitted diseases, as well as to ongoing support for their HIV-AIDS projects.

Yucatan Living October 31Sarah Brightman in Concert at Chichen Itza:
Sarah Brightman Concert at Chichen Itza

The Symphony Orchestra of Yucatan, along with some of the best voices in the state, will perform, on October 31st, with Sarah Brightman at Chichen Itza. Formerly married to Andrew Lloyd Weber, Mx Brightman is a veteran of The Phantom of the Opera and has sung with both the London and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestras. Until now, only Yucatan’s beloved Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo have sung at this archaeological wonder. Elton John is expected to sing at Chichen Itza in April, 2010, and there is talk of inviting both Paul McCartney and David Copperfield at some time in the future.

Yucatan Living International Women’s Club: 25th Anniversary & Reunion:
November 7 through 14
This will be a week-long reunion for the members of IWC throughout the years. The only requirements to join this group are that the lady speaks English. Today, the membership can proudly say that its members’ origins lie in over 20 nations. During their reunion, they will go on a number of tours, eat at some marvelous restaurants, and enjoy such cultural offerings as local serenades and a special program prepared for them by the Symphony. This Anniversary and Reunion are being announced early so that all IWC members, from around the world, will have time to get here. Yucatan Living Alternative Health Fair:
November 14

The Merida English Library will host what we are pretty sure is the First Annual Alternative Health Fair. The fair will open with a Mayan healing ceremony led by traditional Mayan healers. After that, visitors are encouraged to visit the different practitioners who will be on hand to explain what they do. There will be massage therapists, homeopathic practitioners, acupuncturists and Pilates and Yoga teachers. Other disciplines represented include reflexology, aromatherapy and a couple that sponsors yearly free clinics in Piste.

Dominican singer, songwriter, and self-producer who has sold 20 million records, and won numerous awards including nine Latin Grammy Awards two Grammy Awards, and two Latin Billboard Music Awards. He won 5 Latin Grammy awards in 2007 tying him with Juanes for the record of most Latin Grammys won in one night.
