This Week… starting February 16, 2009
Note: Streets Closed for Carnival
This is to remind everyone that, beginning Wednesday, with the burning of Mal Humor (the bad humours), streets will be closed during parades from the Monumento a la Bandera to San Juan Parque. Expect a lot of traffic and people in the streets downtown. During (and slightly before and after) the parades, it will be impossible to go across town in the Centro. For the entire seven days, the goings on will be noisy, but also loads of fun. Carnival will continue through Tuesday of next week, with a short ceremony Wednesday night to burn Juan Carnaval. For all the details and a map, here’s the official Merida Carnival website.
Music and Dancing on Paseo Montejo!
Following the carnival parades on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, there will be music and dancing on Paseo Montejo. For afternoon parades (Sunday and Tuesday), the street parties will last until 8:00 PM. For night parades (Friday, Saturday and Monday), the street parties will last until 2:00 AM. Enjoy! there is also a lovely children’s parade on Thursday, but no party afterwards.
