Municipal Fiestas This Week

As Carnival winds down and a quiet season of Lent begins, there are no new festivals or fiestas beginning this week in the outlying municipalities.

Merida Yucatan Carnaval 2013The dates of Merida’s Carnival 2013 activities are February 6 through February 13. The theme is Mystic Merida, combining legends and fantasy. Monday (Lunes) February 11, 2013

Yucatan Living Carnaval: Regional Parade
This is the parade where many of the participants where traditional costumes, ride in calesas, and where some traditional personalities join in. The parade isn’t quite as flashy, but it is one of the most unique parades!

This is it! This is the last parade of Carnival… and the partying will last on into the night, fading away a little earlier than usual.

God Save the Queen Concert in Merida 2013

Yucatan Living Concert: God Save the Queen
This is live concert that is a tribute to Queen, the group headed by the fabulous Freddie Mercury. The concert traces the group’s history from it’s beginnings in 1973 until their last album. Adding to the fun, the album is billed as having been made “In Heaven,” and was only released after the death of Freddie Mercury in 1991.

Yucatan Living Presentation of the Pieces of the Month
Each month, there is a new exhibition installed in the Museum of the City of Merida. This month, it honors the 91st Anniversary of the founding of UADY and includes other pieces that are relevant to the history of the City of Merida. The show will be available for the entire month.

Guitar Concert in Centro Cultural Tapanco

Yucatan Living Music: Dreaming and Singing with Guitar
This will be a beautiful performance by Juan Luis de Pablo Enriquez Rohen, the composer of the music. The performance is under the direction of Alejandra Argoytia. The theme of this show is an evening of songs that are fun to experience. There will be a variety of music, including a little bossa-nova and even a little blues.

Yucatan Living Full Moon Jazz Festival – Saturday February 23
The Full Moon Jazz is happening again this year! Three fabulous bands, a variety of food and beverages, a great dance floor and some pretty cool raffle prizes. The profits from this event directly supports 23 of the 62 students in the Telchac Education program. The Full Moon Jazz festival is held on the beach, under the stars in a relaxed, fun environment. Trust us, you’re going to have a good time! There is free transportation from Hennessey’s Irish Pub with reservation on a first-come, first-served basis. Buy your ticket, then call 938-1687 to see if there is still space. Remember to take a sweater… the event is on the beach and does go into the night. See you there!

This documentary is a presentation of Ule Productions, and chronicles the life and work of Gonzalo Espana, better known as “Mammie Blue,” promoter of the gay community in the City of Merida. This should be an interesting documentary that you probably won’t be able to see anywhere else.

Yucatan Living Telchac Puerto: Spay/Neuter Program – Saturday March 9: Rummage and bake sale
Telchac Puerto will be holding it’s first spay and neuter clinic on Sunday, March 17, and everyone is very excited about it. On March 9, there will be a fundraiser for the clinic. There will be a rummage sale and a bake sale in the Telchac central square. They are asking for donations for the rummage sale. If you have anything you would like to donate, please drop it off at Hotel Libros y Suenos by the day before the sale. Baked goods should be dropped off either the day of the sale or no more than the day before. Everyone is invited to come out and support these worthy efforts by either donating an item or buying something from the sale.
