We would like to add two points of information related to the "First Cultural Fiesta" in Oaxaca.

First - When we receive notification of an event, the information in that notification is all we have to go on... hence, our description of the Fox Center sponsored "First Cultural Fiesta" in Oaxaca. However, we do notice that they use the word "luxury" a great deal in their descriptions, so we are thinking that part of the purpose of this fiesta is to introduce the work of many of the really "fine" artisans of Oaxaca to the export industry. This seems to be the thrust of many of the Fox Center's projects.

Second - from a reader (thanks Mary): The guelaguetza in July is centuries old. There is a celebration each May that brings together and celebrates the similarities and differences of one of the regions of Oaxaca plus one of the states of Mexico plus one other country of the world. An early October festival celebrates food along with the cultures that originated the dishes and flavors. Many, many others go on throughout the year.

Now - we invite you to visit Oaxaca's Cultural website: http://oaxaca.gob.mx/index.php?option=com_content&view=section&id=2&Itemid=7 and their Tourism website: http://oaxaca.gob.mx/index.php?option=com_content&view=section&layout=blog&id=1&Itemid=13 to see all that is happening today in Oaxaca.

What do you mean that Oaxaca has had no cultural festivals until now? How insulated are you there?

As typical expats you've built your compounds to keep out the rest of the world -- it worked quite well for you.
