Municipal Fiestas This Week

Yucatan Living Kinchil Fiesta: May 24
This fiesta is in honor of Cristo de las Ampollas. Kinchil is located between Samahil and Celestun, just 34 km southeast of Merida, so it is near enough to the city to go and see this event. Look for woven baskets of palm, rattan and bamboo here.

Yucatan Living Music: Best of the Bella EpocaLluvia con Sol Musical Group
This performance is part of a series to introduce their new CD, produced in celebration of the 35th Anniversary of Lluvia con Sol. We had to laugh when we read an interview with director, vocalist and drummer Eddie Gomez, who said that “Best of the Bella Epoca” is the most stolen CD they have ever made! When they played it for a group of fans and finished listening to it, the CD had suddenly disappeared. It looks as if this is going to be a great musical performance with a tropical flavor. Preview this wonderful group here: Lluvia con Sol

Whether in a furnished room in Mexico, on top of a Mayan ruin, buying grilled corn in the plaza, at a West Indian dance club, or on a once deserted beach now changed beyond recognition, these poems are a map to the treasures in each of us and speak eloquently of the urgency of HERE and NOW! Yucatan Living Video Documentary: Puma, Lion of the Andes
This is a documentary about the mysterious puma. Only a lucky few have ever seen this magnificent cat that prowls the Andes. For two years, acclaimed natural history filmmaker Hugh Miles lived among Patagonia’s pumas, capturing never-before-seen images of this shy, secretive predator. Experience the unprecedented trust formed between the filmmaker and an extraordinary puma he calls Penny. His camera, equipped with a special night-vision lens, reveals the triumphs and tragedies of Penny’s life: She finds a mate, gives birth to three cubs, and guides her offspring through daily struggles against starvation and poaching. It is rare for a totally wild creature to allow a human to come so close, and Hugh Miles makes the most of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Now, you too can walk in the path of the Puma, Lion of the Andes.
