This week…

While ongoing events in the parks continue, this is the last week of cleaning and restoration in the Olimpo, so there are not events listed for the Ayuntamiento. Still great events at other locations. Look for next week to showcase blockbusters in all areas.

Every week…

For ongoing events and classes in Merida,
please click our NEW Ongoing Events Page!!

On the Ongoing Events page, you will find a list of all ongoing classes and other regular events that are repeated every week. When a new class or ongoing event is announced, it will be highlighted at the top of both events pages, and then will be added to the Ongoing Events page. We hope this makes your planning easier!

As always, if you have an event for the English-speaking community of Merida that you would like to publicize, please contact us at info [at] yucatanliving [dot] com (hopefully at least a week before the event) and we will be happy to add it to our Events pages.

Set in the Nazi-controlled, northern Italian state of Salo in 1944, four dignitaries round up sixteen perfect specimens of youth and take them together with guards, servants and studs to a palace near Marzabotto. In addition, there are four middle-aged women: three of whom recount arousing stories whilst the fourth accompanies on the piano. Yucatan Living Independence Day: September 15Independence Day in Merida
If you want to go to a party, the Plaza Grande is the place to be on the evening of September 15. At precisely 10:30 PM, the governess will step out onto the balcony of the Governor’s Palace and ring a huge brass bell. Each time the bell is rung, the governess will lead the crowd in a shout of “Viva Mexico!” This ritual is called the grito, after which there will be fireworks and a huge party for the public on the Plaza Grande. If you’re going, remember to get there at least two hours early, as space and parking are limited. We suspect, however, that there will also be plenty of parties going on in other parks and loads of house parties as well. In the meantime: “Viva Mexico!”

This is going to be the second annual Expo Gourmet for the State and is under the direction of the Association of Chefs of Yucatan, AC. This is in preparation for expansion of the show into the First Expo Gourmet Yucatan 2009, which will have a nonregional, national theme. There are going to be some wonderful expositions during this presentation, including cooking for kids, a "chef for the day," and even the art of chocolate. This is a marvelous opportunity to show Yucateco cuisine to the world, and to learn more about it ourselves.

Yucatan Living Wild 9: The 9th World Wilderness Congress
Won’t you please take a few moments to visit the website of the 9th World Wilderness Congress? This event will take place here in Yucatan from November 6 through November 13. For over 25 years, this Congress has met, every 3 to 4 years, for the purpose of building and maintaining a high-profile platform for acting on complex wilderness and wildlands issues. We are especially impressed by the fact that teens (as young as 13) are included in the program and that there is special emphasis placed on the educational and practical needs of young environmental professionals. At this point in time, they are asking that individuals and groups sign up with their intent to attend the congress. You can do that from their site. Signing up early will keep you in the loop of the developing program and give you an opportunity to make suggestions, if you like. Hosting Wild 9 is a huge international coup for Yucatan and we are very proud of the scope and importance of what will be happening here this November.
