Events: Midsummer Merida

This Week… starting July 13, 2009

Events are light in the city for this week. Everyone is at the beach for summer vacation. As you can see, events in the beach towns are picking up, but tend to be for the younger crowd. Still, there are plenty of events left for all age groups both in the city and beyond.

Municipal Fiestaa This WeekMotul Yucatan

Yucatan Living Motul Fiesta Continues Until July 20
This is a fiesta where you can get something special for your home (tin candlesticks made by a 93 year old lady), something special to wear (a locally made Italian style bathing suit), and do something nice for someone (buy a sandwich and desert from the disabled young people) all in the same day and only minutes from Merida.

Yucatan Living Sinanche Fiesta One Day Event – July 14
This fiesta is in honor of San Buenaventura. In fact, the Templo de San Buenaventura, constructed in the 17th century, is one of the major tourist attractions of this area. Located on the coast of Yucatan, just this side of Telchac Pueblo, the town you are most likely to associate with Sinanche is San Crisanto, well known for its mangrove swamps and tours. In past centuries, Sinache was known as "el arbol del alacran" (the tree of the scorpion) and was part of the province of Ceh Pech. If you have not been to Sinanche and San Crisanto, you are missing a "must see" part of both Yucatan’s coast and history.
