Merida Events: A Week of Concerts

This Week… starting January 09, 2012

Municipal Fiestas This Week

Yucatan Living Tizimin Fiesta: December 30 through January 16Tizimin Fiesta and Fair
This is a huge fiesta in the heart of Yucatan’s horse country. Visit theTizimin Website to see loads of pictures of this great area. Tizimin is that large municipality that borders the Gulf of Mexico and Quintana Roo, as well as extending far into the interior of the State. This gives this municipality access to all of the best of the entire peninsula. What this combination festival and fiesta is doing is running from the last Friday in one year to the beginning of Carnival in the next. This year, the dates are December 30 to January 16. Activities will include horse racing, cockfighting and exhibitions of registered cattle and agricultural machinery.

Yucatan Living Santa Elena Fiesta: January 10th through January 24th
This fiesta is in honor of Santo Cristo del Amor. Many of our readers are familiar with Santa Elena because it is the municipality in which Uxmal is located. Santa Elena is located southeast of the city, and forms part of our border with the State of Campeche. There are loads of archaeological sites here, including Uxmal, Kabah, Nohpat, Xcoh and Muchich.

In The City

Yucatan Living The Festival of the City of Merida: January 5 through January 30Festival of the City of Merida 2012
This festival will celebrate the 470th anniversary of the founding of the City of Merida. There will be approximately 200 events held in the city in a three and a half week period of time. Every year, this festival grows and the events become more spectacular. We are beginning to get dates on some of the events and will enter them in our Month at a Glance calendar, as well as presenting them – week-by-week – here in the Events column. Check back regularly to see our updated calendar.

Wednesday (Miercoles) January 01, 2012

Yucatan Living Emmanuel Pinzon in ConcertGreat Young Voices of Yucatan
The title of this concert is "The Reasons for a Song" and this young man certainly has reason to sing. Not only is he the son of Yucatan’s famed Adalberto, but he is Yucatan’s answer to Harry Connick, Jr. and even, we dare say, to Sinatra himself. Never miss a chance to see this young man as his talent grows and matures. His dad, we might add, has one of the smoothest voices we have ever heard, so look for great things from all of the Pinzons.

Time: 8:00 PM, Wednesday
Admission: Free

Yucatan Living Cony Ancona in Concert: All For You
Another of Yucatan’s greats. We can’t believe the luck of walking out of an Emmanuel Pinzon concert, right into the arms of the voice of Cony Ancona. What a night… only during Merida’s birthday celebration.
