Merida Events: Ballet and Symphony

This Week… starting November 21, 2011

Municipal Fiestas This Week

Yucatan Living Tekantó Fiesta Nov 21 through Nov. 26
This fair is in honor of Santo Cristo de Citilcún. You really want to go and look at the work of the artisans in Tekantó because they make traditional hammocks, the cotton huipiles are cross-stitched by hand, and they make many other articles from sosquil, which is a biodegradable material made from 100% sisal (Henequén) yarn. Preview a sample wall covering  here.  The Municipality of Tekantó is located to the east of Merida, just south of Suma and Teya and just north of Izamal.

Yucatan Living Xmatkuil – The Yucatan State Fair: November 11- December 03Feria Xmatkuil 2011
Every year, the Yucatan State Fair is held in the small municipality of Xmatkuil, just outside of Merida. If you’ve never been, go! You’ll enjoy the parts that are different from what you are used to as well as the parts that are just like your State Fair back home.

In The City

Yucatan Living Yucatan’s Fall Cultural Festival: October 21 through December 13
Yucatan’s Fall Cultural Festival is one of the most important annual events in all of Mexico. This year’s festival is a tribute to the great composer and singer Sergio Esquivel, known throughout Mexico and born in Yucatan. The events are all online and can be viewed from the website of the Annual Festival of the Arts. Yucatan Living will be including events from this festival in our regular Events column so our readers won’t miss anything.
