Yucatan Living Mérida en Domingo
Sunday downtown is a spectacular tradition in Mérida. Start at the center of town, where booths are set up all around the Plaza Grande. Inside the plaza, you can find huipiles, guayaberas, honey, dolls, bags, tee-shirts… and everything is made for sale by the local people of the Yucatan. The outer ring of booths are selling food: marquesitas, tacos, cochinita, ice cream (try the coconut), fruit, drinks, etc. If the crowd starts to get to you, wander up Calle 60 to Santa Lucia Park (at Calle 55), where you can also find antiques, old books and other curiosities. At that lovely park, there is also live music, lots of dancing, and great food.

  1. Not sure where the baseball info came from. The playoffs don’t start until Aug. Los Leones are on the road this week, playing in Tabasco then Cancun. They return home July the 27th to play a three game series against Campeche before the all-star break. Los Leones half already locked up first place in the first half of the season. The season is split into two halves, allowing teams that had a disappointing first half to rebound in the second half. Points are awarded for position placement in the two halves to determine playoff seedings. What people can do now is purchase a season pass for the rest of the regular season which will include the ability to reserve your seating for the playoffs.

  2. What night do the adorable Yukatones play? I couldn’t find it in the ad.

  3. Starting in June, the Yucatones will be playing at Jazzin’ Merida every Thursday night.
