Dear Ms. Wannabe,

Yes, there IS a place to rent bikes! The one we know of is at the Plaza de la Bandera on the opposite side from McDonalds. There may be more locations, but that one is a sure thing. Not sure what they cost... let us know!

And of course, you are more than welcome. We do our best!

I don't have a bike here. Is there a place to rent one?

I use the events column every week; my life has been enriched. Thanks.

We have three suggestions for finding someone to carve you a statue.

One is in Dzitya, just outside of Merida. There is a group, Piedras Real, that has a storefront on the square in that town. You can go to them with any request and they will find someone in town to execute it for you. If you want to contact them in advance, you can email them at piedrareal@prodigy.net.mx or call 999-176-2089.

Another suggestion is two men on the road between Valladolid and Tulum. They call themselves Hombres de Piedra (Men of Stone) and can be reached by calling their phone number: 984-125-4069 or by just dropping by. How will you know the place? It's a clearing on the south side of the road and there are big carved stones in front. And if they are there, their VW bus is parked outside as well.

Thirdly, you could just wait til you get here and go to Dzitya. Walk along the main road and look at what people have done. Choose a house that has work that you like and talk to the man or men who work there.

Hope this helps... buena suerte!

Greetings - I will be coming to Yucatan in December and I am currently on a quest to find a master carver that I can hire to carve an original piece for me - a small sculpture of a Maya deity, or the bust of a Yucatacan. In reading about the festival at Ditzya, I feel at a total loss not being able to be there myself. Does anyone have any suggestions? Muchas gracias!
