Merida Events: National Guitar Festival

This Week… starting October 12, 2009

Municipal Fiestas This Week

There are only 2 municipal fiestas set to open for the rest of October and both are huge events. These two fiestas at two of the Yucatan’s most important colonial towns get bigger and better every year, so they are both “must attend” events.

Yucatan Living Valladolid: Fiesta  16 Day EventOctober 15 through October 29
This is the Fiesta of Cristo Rey (Christ the King). Look for leather goods, jewelry, clothing, and hammocks. This is also the land of the caballero, so horsemanship events and cattle shows will likely be on the agenda as well. For more, see Working Gringos’ newest article on Valladolid.

Yucatan Living Izamal: Fiesta 12 Day EventOct. 19 through Oct. 31
This is the fiesta in honor of Santo Cristo de Citilpech. Processions are related to trade associations, and especially to dairy workers. This city has been important to the Mayans continuously from the 4th century B.C. until today. This is the place where one can find a shrine to its founder, Itzamná, as well as a statue of Pope John Paul II. This really is a "must attend" fiesta in a "must visit" city.

One Response to “Merida Events: National Guitar Festival”

  1. Hello: Is it only possible to pick up tickets to the free cponcert events at the theater where they are being held. I would love to attend but live 30 minutes North of Centro. I think this means a trip to Centro to get the ticket and then another trip for the concert.

Is there anywhere in the North part of town to get tickets?

    thanks, Gail
