Merida Events: Ha’Ash!

This Week… starting June 27, 2011

Municipal Fiestas This Week

Yucatan Living Xocchel Fiesta: June 24 through June 29 each year
This is the annual Xocchel Fiesta that honors San Juan Bautista, patron saint of the Municipality of Xocchel. It begins at noon on the first day of the event. If you are looking for a municipality that is off the beaten path – but the beaten path is still nearby – Xocchel should be your destination of choice. This small municipality lies less than an hour southeast of the City of Merida, on the road to Valladolid, and the 21st century has not quite made it there. Xocchel YucatanTo see a great map, plus pictures of the area and towns in Xocchel, click on Bicycle Yucatan, our favorite traveling the back roads of Yucatan website.

Yucatan Living Panaba Fiesta: June 26 through June 30
This is Panaba’s annual fiesta honoring San Pedro and San Pablo. Panaba is just inland to the southeast of San Felipe and Rio Lagartos. Almost everyone there is involved in either fishing or the cattle industry, or both. Languages spoken in Panaba include Mayan and Zapoteco. Look for good food at even the most humble establishment here!

Yucatan Living Samahil Fiesta: June 29 through July 7
This fiesta is in honor of San Pedro Abad, patrono del pueblo. It can easily be found by zooming in on this map. Samahil is in a busy area, with plenty of artisans and craftsmen.
