Merida Events: Merida Fest 2013

This Week… starting January 7, 2013

Municipal Fiestas This Week

Tizimin Fiesta and Fair

Yucatan Living Tizimin Fiesta: December 15 through January 18
We hardly know where to start telling you about this Fiesta! It seems that it is not going to end! We are seeing events scheduled through January 18th ! This fiesta is in honor of Santos Reyes (the Three Kings). Don’t think of this as just the end of a Cowboy Christmas. Tizimin is a huge municipality (county) that extends from whale watching on the northern coast to the traditional Mayan lifestyle in the south. While this is a cattleman’s wonderland, the shopping here is across the board: fine jewelry, pottery, leather work, pirograbado (wood carving by burning), artistic carpentry, and much much more!

Yucatan Living Santa Elena Fiesta: January 10th through January 24th
This fiesta is in honor of Santo Cristo del Amor. Many of our readers are familiar with Santa Elena, a small pueblo close to Uxmal. It is to the southeast of the city, and forms part of our border with the State of Campeche. There are loads of archaeological sites here, including Uxmal but also Kabah, Nohpat, Xcoh and Muchich, to name a few.

In the City This Week
