This fiesta takes place during the third week in November and is a traditional festival (county fair). Halacho is located on our border with Campeche. The Templo de Santiago Apóstol and the ruins of Siho Oxkintok can both be found there.

Cairo Cinema Café: Waltz with Bashir
This movie was directed by Ari Folman and has subtitles in Spanish. Since the title is in English, we are assuming the movie is as well. An Israeli film director interviews fellow veterans of the 1982 invasion of Lebanon to reconstruct his own memories of his term of service in that conflict. There is both nudity and graphic sexual content in this movie, as well as disturbing scenes depicting atrocities.

(EUA, 2003) Sister Helen is not your average nun. In fact, there is nothing average about this story. Documentary: Flowers in the Desert
Every year the Huicholes embark on pilgrimages from the mountain ranges in Jalisco to the Wirikuta Desert in San Luis PotosÌ and to the Aramara Sea along the coast of San Blas, Nayarit; amongst other places.

Photo Exhibit Event at Habla
The city’s most interesting place to learn Spanish (and English!) is branching out into all sorts of wonderful cultural events. This Friday night they will host an exhibit of works by student photographers from the ESAY school. Under the direction of Francisco Martin, using pinhole cameras, they have done experiments with light and subject matter to answer the question, “How can photographers see again like children?”. Refreshments will be served.

Alternative Health Fair
The Merida English Library will host what we are pretty sure is the First Annual Alternative Health Fair. Visitors are encouraged to visit the different practitioners who will be on hand to explain what they do. There will be massage therapists, homeopathic practitioners, acupuncturists and Pilates and Yoga teachers. Other disciplines represented include reflexology, aromatherapy and a couple that sponsors yearly free clinics in Piste.

International Women’s Club: 25th Anniversary & Reunion:
November 7 through 14
This will be a week-long reunion for the members of IWC throughout the years. The only requirements to join this group are that the lady speaks English. Today, the membership can proudly say that its members’ origins lie in over 20 nations. During their reunion, they will go on a number of tours, eat at some marvelous restaurants, and enjoy such cultural offerings as local serenades and a special program prepared for them by the Symphony. This Anniversary and Reunion are being announced early so that all IWC members, from around the world, will have time to get here. Movie: The One Man Village
A moving, poignant story, ‘One Man Village’ is Lebanese director Simon El Habre’s documentary on the life of his elderly uncle, farmer Semaan El Habre. As the only remaining inhabitant of Ain El Hazaroun, a small village outside Beirut, Semaan stubbornly remains, while other villagers, who fled the besieged village during the 15-year civil war, have failed to return.

Nov. 21: The Last Mexican Crafts Fair of 2009
The works of 16 invited artists and artisans from Merida and Yucatan will be on hand at this fair. Six completely new artists will be featured. Food will be available from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM and there will be a Door Prize drawing at 4:00 PM. If you have been looking for anything from the Rolls Royce of Hammocks to locally sculpted marble, this is the fair to attend. There will also be a complete range of specially made clothing, in all sizes, for both ladies and men.
