This movie is part of a Women in Cinema series at the Olimpo. Only she can climb the nearby mountains to a cave high up, whence a mysterious blue light glows when the moon is full. Many young men of the village have died trying to follow her. She is driven out of town, and takes to living in the mountains. Eventually she shares the secret of the blue light with one man, and he betrays it.” Directed by the famous German woman director, Leni Reifenstahl, in 1932… a definite classic! The Bonete trees are still standing, and you are invited to visit Kaxil Kiuic Biocultural Reserve for a revival of the ancient HETZ LUUM ceremony. HETZ LUUM is a Maya agricultural ceremony that incorporates the indispensable tools of traditional devotion: a Hmen or shaman, altar, cardinal indicators, sacred offerings. Renowned Hmen and healer Don Felipe Manrique will officiate. Participants may assist with the ceremony and preparation of the traditional cornmeal Pib offering. Besides blessing the land and Hetz Luum participants, Don Felipe will offer a special prayer for the survival of the jaguar as we launch conservation fieldwork for this endangered animal in Yucatan´s Puuc Hills. This extraordinary all-day event includes transportation to-and-from Merida, and delicious breakfast and lunch prepared by local Reserve staff. Reserve Director James Callaghan will lead participants on walking tours to explore the complex and fascinating biology, history and archaeology of the Puuc. The private Kaxil Kiuic Biocultural Reserve´s 4,400 acres are home to a rich variety of plants and animals, including jaguar and ocelot. 1. This is very useful info thanks! Could you indicate what language the movies and some of the other events are in, please? That would also be a great help!

  2. Peter, we try to do that when we know :-) Most films that were originally shot in English are shown with Spanish subtitles. Only children’s films are dubbed in Mexico, as a rule.
