Merida Events: Music of All Kinds

This Week… starting July 16, 2012

Municipal Fiestas This Week

Things are quiet in the municipalities this week but, in Yucatan, that means only one thing… the whole state is gearing up for festivals and fiestas throughout the month of August.

Rio Lagartos in Yucatan Mexico

Yucatan Living Rio Lagartos Fiesta: July 22 – 25

This fiesta is in honor of Santiago Apostol. There will be many religious ceremonies, processions, vaquerias and bull fights. Rio Lagartos is a fishing municipality, so look for great seafood here, as well as cotton hammocks, huipiles, blouses, and guayaberas. Rio Lagartos is a tiny municipality, located on the coast between San Felipe and Tizimin. There are mangroves here and loads of opportunities to take boat rides both in the Gulf of Mexico and up the river. These coastal municipalities are each mini-wonderlands all their own, so don’t miss an opportunity to visit whenever you can. Don’t forget… A festival is more like a county fair, while you are more likely to see a religious procession at a fiesta. See more about Rio Lagartos in this video!
