@Peggy - The Working Gringos advice is the best. My experience may differ from yours. I married a Mexican citizen. I had to go through steps in getting married by the Registro Civil. Getting all the papers needed from Texas. Like an 'Apostille' letter from Austin. I had to visit the Immigration of Mexico to get a permission letter. I had to pay a translator to get all my papers and documents in english translated into espanol. I had to get 3 persons who knew Ariadna to write letters for us. We did alot of leg work in order to be married in Merida. Again, Working Gringos advice may offer you some short cuts. :-) Best wishes on your marriage in Yucatan.

Peggy, Check out Paradise Weddings at www.mayarivieraweddings.com! Manuela and Tere speak English and have been doing weddings for over 8 years here. Their website tells you some of the rules and regulations about getting married here. And if you want them to consult with you and help you arrange it, they can do that.

Felicidades!

Hola! Can anyone give me any ideas on getting married by civil ceremony in Progreso/Chicxulub. We have rented a house Chicxulub and would like to hire a Mariachi group and a Justice of the Peace for the 27th of Dec.

Thanks

Carlos - its best if I don't speak Spanish. A Louisiana accent is hilarious in Spanish! Even I get tickled and start laughing.

Khaki - My telephone answering machine invites callers to visit Yucatan Living. Ariadna's favorite mall is Gran Plaza. I liked Plaza Americas. Don't know if the new Mega Plaza will hurt Plaza Fiesta. WE went to visit Plaza Oriente and may I say it was not exciting. lol It's compared to what we call here in Texas a 'Strip Mall'. Very small. Are you learning how to say the amount in espanol? Cause the words dinero and peso is pretty easy. I never got a chance to know the store employees much, any where I went. I got to know the managers and waitresses at VIPS on Paseo de Montejo. Don't know them well enough to get someone a discount on meals though. lol Interesting to know you and I were neighbors, you being from Louisiana. Next to El Yucateco, Tabasco is my next favorite Hot Sauce.
