This Week… starting March 11 , 2013
Municipal Fiestas This Week
As we continue through Lent, there are no new Festivals or Fiestas beginning this week.
But be prepared for the crowds and excitement of Semana Santa (Holy Week). This nationwide holiday takes place during the week prior to Easter Sunday and the week after. As holidays tend to grow, festivities surrounding this annual celebration are likely to begin prior to the weekend of Palm Sunday (weekend of March 24, 2013) and run through Easter Sunday itself (March 31, 2013).

2013 Spring Cultural Festival: Renew Yucatan With Music – May 2 – 31
During the Spring Cultural Festival, there will be a statewide contest to find the best of Yucatan’s musical artists in traditional Yucateco trova, popular music, chamber music and urban youth expressions. This means that audiences will be treated to the very best in everything from Yucatan’s young composers to soloists, groups and orchestras. We will also get to enjoy a wide variety of music, including rock, pop, funk and reggae. This is where we give our readers a big hint: if it says fusion, in Yucatan, don’t discount it by thinking of fusion from other places. Fusion, in Yucatan, has one of the most enjoyable layers of jazz you will find anywhere in the world.
