Yucatan Events: Fiestas and Music

This Week… starting July 25, 2011

Municipal Fiestas This Week

There are only two municipal fiestas beginning this week, so this is a good time to relax. There is, of course, the big Tunich Craft Fair in Dzitya. Next week is going to be busy with a total of nine fiestas beginning in the same week. Not to worry that you will miss anything. Some last for more than a week, so there will be plenty of time to visit them all. One of next week’s fiestas is Merida’s own very popular fiestas in Santiago and San Sebastian, and the one in San Sebastian lasts for two weeks. For now, try to make it to Valladolid and Teabo for this week’s municipal fiestas.

Yucatan Living Tunich Craft Fair in Dzitya : July 22-31
This year, the fair will showcase 155 stalls, each filled with the best work of artisans from Dzitya, Molas, Noc Ac, Komchen, and Caucel. Products of stone, wood, fabric and embroidery will be available, as well as food and snacks. During the fair, there will be free art programs as well. Free bus transportation from the city is available, as well as two football fields for parking if you decide to drive. The special guest artisans this year are from the State of Mexico and they will be bringing textiles, wood, glass, blacksmithing, candles, confectionery and more. Of course, there will be folk and traditional dances for your entertainment. This fair is one of the highlights of the year, so please do try to attend.

Yucatan Living Valladolid (Pixoy) Fiesta : July 22-31Fiesta in Valladolid
This is a fiesta in honor of Nuestra Señora de Santa Ana. Valladolid is located in the eastern part of the State of Yucatan and is one of the signature municipalities in the identity of the state itself. Valladolid is the land of horse-ranching, restored cathedrals, cenotes, archaeological ruins, and one of the most active business and trade areas in all of Mexico. Valladolid is a must-see for all of the expats who know to look off of the tourist trails for surprises that make unforgettable memories. Never miss an opportunity to visit Valladolid. This fiesta is in a little town in Valladolid.

Yucatan Living Teabo Fiesta:July 27 through August 1
This fiesta is in honor of San Pedro and San Pablo. Teabo is just north of Tekax and just east of Mani and Akil. You can find great leatherwork here, as well as cotton hammocks and embroidery done by hand. It is a whole lot cooler in the southern part of Yucatan this time of year than it is in Merida, so a little trip south might be a pretty good idea right about now.
