Seafood at Sol y Mar in Progreso Yucatan MexicoNotes: This quaint street café, two blocks from the beach in Progreso, is tremendously popular with locals, expatriates, and cruise ship tourists. It can’t be beat for its’ relaxed atmosphere, for breakfast, lunch and dinner. What could be more welcoming in the morning hours than a hug and smile from the owners, along with a French press filled to the brim with really great coffee? What could be better than reading the news on your WIFI-connected laptop, while you enjoy a delicious lunch and look up occasionally to watch the people go by? Gabriel and his wife, Julia, have expanded Sol y Mar over the last year, adding a full service bar, doubling the interior dining space, and spicing up the menu with a delicious array of unique seafood dishes, including their twist on the traditional Shrimp Cocktail. While Julia performs her artistry in the kitchen, with Chicken, Beef or Pork Cordon Bleu as the house special, Gabriel is the master behind the funky and fun art that adorns the entire façade of Sol y Mar.
