I have elderly parents that were evacuated from cancun, and are in a shelter about 40 minutes outside the city. I have called US embassy, Red Cross, and cannot seem to get any info on what they will do with all the evacuees. I have heard they will open Cancun aiport on Wednesday, but they are also bussing some folks to Merida for flights out. I was thinking of trying to come and pick them up, but I thought I would need to fly into Merida, and then rent a car to Cancun, just to be sure that I could get my poor little old parents out. Father is 83 and has heart condition, mother has diabetes...any suggestions?? Thanks for your good descriptions of what is going on..better than CNN or anyother news sources in USA.

Is it true Wilma is the most serious hurriance in the history of the Atlantic? Katrina upstaged every natural disaster in US history, so now Wilma seems almost same old, same old...but quite the contrary. Please get the heck out of there if she starts venturing your way....
