They say Mexican truckers and trucks aren't safe? Funny, because here in the US, those rednecks drive those big rigs like it's a little Mazda sports car. They always follow to close to me, speed, and have nearly crushed me at least 50 times! Stupid rednecks probably drive them drunk, I'd rather trust a Mexican to drive them!

Elsie, do you really believe a man that committed a series of fraudulent activities most of his adult life? I would be willing to bet that at this point in time you could not offer anyone a bribe (please note that I use the term bribe not fine) to release Brenda. But please be my guest and try it.
The more that I read about Brenda the less sympathy I feel for her. She lived and worked in Mexico illegally for ten years. Paid no taxes in either Canada or Mexico and after 10 years in Mexico did not speak Spanish. After Her employer was arrested she expressed the concern that she was afraid of the police so why didn't she leave the country then? She was earning $500 a week when she worked as a cook for Mr. Waage a sum that most Mexican people could not imagine and many could have done for less.
Carol, she has been treated better then most Mexicans in prison; she has a special diet, gets to make weekly cell phone calls to her Mother and has a friend in Mexico that spends about $40 (Can.) on supplies for her every week. I don't want any of my tax dollars spent to rescue her.

Yes Brenda Martin is the the victim of poor representation. Her former boss who is serving time in the U:S: has said that he feels that she is being held so long because he didn't pay a $500,000 fine to the Mexican authorities when he left Mexico. It would be interesting to see how fast she could be released if this fine were paid.

Having lived in Mexico for many years, one neds to understand the "justice" system in Meixo. Yes, it is based on the Napoleonic Code, and one is guilty util proven innocent. If one styays clear of criminals in Mexico, which may prove sometimes difficult, the Mexican justice will not bother you. AFter 30 years of living in and on the Mexican border, no problems have ever occured. However, if you do break the law in Mexico, yes, a foreigner will be treated differently as the Mexicans see this a an insult to their culture. Just watch your step, follow the laws, and no problema!

Futher for those that want to boycott Mexican products, beware. Most of our fruits and vegetables come from Mexico (as well as Chile). Check it out sometime soon, as example this last weekend we bought "BC Hothouse" tomatoes and yet across the top of this same label on each tomatoe was the word Mexico....a little known fact is that a region in Canada can claim a product of theirs as long as it has spent a least one "feeding" within that region or otherwise. A true classic is Alberta Beef which has a large contingent of beef from BC and all they have to do is feed the cattle once in Alberta and it becomes prized Alberta Beef.

On the other issue of Ms. Martin, I trust everyone will approach this rationally rather than emotionally and deal with the true facts as they are revealed.
