Qualifications of Dr. Arturo Rios Arjona

Dr. Arturo Rios is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in foot and ankle surgery, arthroscopy, sports medicine and traumatic orthopedia. In addition to doing postgraduate work in Mexico City, Dr. Rios has added to his specialized knowledge through additional training at the University of Miami in Florida, the American Orthopedic Soceity for Sports Medicine, and at Barry University at South Miami Hospital. He has also participated for fifteen years in the program "Yucatan Crippled Children Project" at the Podiatric School of Medicine at Barry University.

In addition, Dr. Rios has served on the clinical faculty of Barry University for nine years, as a professor for annual meetings of AMOT (the Mexican Association of Orthopedics and Traumatology) and has served as the President of the Colegio Médico de Ortopedia y Traumatología in Yucatan for 2002-2003.

Dr. Rios is a member in good standing of the Colegio Médico de Especialistas en Ortopedia y Traumatología de Yucatan (CMEOT), the Asociación Mexicana de Ortopedia y Traumatología (AMOT), the Asociacion Mexicana de Cirugia de Rodilla y Artroscopia (AMECRA) and the Consejo Mexicano de Ortopedia y Traumatología (CMOT) in Mexico. He is also an International Member of both the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS), as well as an Associate Member of the Academy of Ambulatory Foot and Ankle Surgery (AAFAS). After graduating in Mexico City in 1986, he was recertified by the Consejo Mexicano de Ortopedia y Traumatología in 2003 and is on the Orthopedic Staff of Star Medica Hospital in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico.

Orthopedic Surgery

Orthopedic surgery is the surgery that deals with any disorders of the locomotive system of the human body, including the muscular, osseous (bone-related) or joint components. Orthopedics treats the acute, chronic, traumatic and recurrent injuries in this system. Apart from the mechanical considerations, orthopedics also refers to the pathological, genetic, intrinsic, extrinsic and biomechanical factors implied in the system.
