Casa del Panadero is a quiet, secluded getaway centrally located just two blocks from Paseo Montejo, where you can stroll under the shade trees or take a horse-drawn calesa down the avenue. Walk to the south and you’re just five blocks from the center of town, the Zocalo. There you will find the Centro Historico of Latin America’s oldest continually inhabited city, including the Catedral de San Ilfonso, the imposing cathedral built from the stones of the Mayan city of T’ho.
Once a bakery, this colonial house has been renovated and decorated to provide all the comforts of a modern home in the center of the colonial city of Merida. The two spacious bedrooms have private baths, mini-split air conditioners with remote controls, solid wood roperos for your clothes and personal items, original tile floors and tall wooden doors. The kitchen opens up to a central courtyard with a fountain surrounded by flowering plants. The living and dining rooms also surround the courtyard, optimizing the outdoor living that the Yucatan is famous for. In the back garden, a rough-hewn stone patio leads to a Mayan plunge-pool with a soft chicun finish, the same finish used by ancient Mayans to seal and protect their water storage units.
