Behind the clean white facade, is an renovated colonial home, restored and then brought up to 21st Century standards and style. While using traditional materials and techniques, the architects updated this home with a very modern look. Modern appliances and fixtures complete the picture, creating a modern and minimalist home with a colonial past. The combination is both breathtaking and relaxing.

A downstairs bedroom suite, complete with private bath and small garden and an upstairs bedroom suite with private bath, indoor/outdoor shower and access to the plunge pool and terrace, make this a perfect rental for a small family, a couple or two couples traveling together.

There is a formal dining room, a bar at the kitchen counter and an outdoors dining area under an arbor of tropical greenery, providing three lovely areas to enjoy either homecooked meals or home-delivery. Or just enjoy these areas with some wine and cheese before stepping outside to visit one of the growing number of restaurants in Merida’s Centro Historico.

Both spacious bedrooms are equipped with ceiling fans and air conditioning. Each features a dressing table, a walk-in clothes closet and a private bath. Upstairs the bathroom has double sinks, and a unique indoor/outdoor shower area, which also opens out to the upstairs plunge pool.

The deck upstairs has both the plunge pool and an area for sunbathing, as well as a screened-in porch for reading or a luxuriously long siesta. Spend all day exploring the Mayan archaeology of Chichen Itza or Uxmal, and then come home to your own vacation spa!

Everything about Casa de Los Epejos is beautiful to look at, and the rooms flow with the same ease as the gentle tropical breezes that blow through the house. Want to just sit and relax? Choose from the downstairs sala, the outdoor sitting area, the upstairs sun lounge or the screened-in sleeping porch. Not enough choices? There’s also the intimate TV room with a daybed and a flat-screen TV and wireless internet.

Casa de Los Espejos has been featured in Architectural Digest Mexico in 2007 and will again be featured in 2009. The mixture of elegance and minimalism has created a place with functional beauty that allows for maximum vacation relaxation. Maid service is included every other day for rentals of 3 days or more.
