Katy, it is best to ask this question of the people at www.yucatanyes.com. They are the experts. As far as we know, married or not, the requirement is PER PERSON.

I am already here in Merida, and looking to obtain a FM3. I am staying with my husband and brother-in-law who are Mexican citizens and I am an American. If I'm married and not working, can I use my husband's income, or his bank statements, to meet the requirements? If so, does the $1,000 USD per month still apply to us? Is that the required amount we have to make in order for me to obtain a FM3? Thanks for your help!

Steven, it looks like you do have some work to do to make yourself legal here. We are NOT experts on this, but the good people at Yucatan Expatriate Services are. Go to their website and contact them via phone or chat, and they will take it from there. www.yucatanyes.com

Suerte!

Hey Guys, I have a massive problem! If you can help please do!

Ive been living in Mexico for 5 years but I've only had a FM3 for the first year as I had a job. Then I quit to work freelance (Cash in Hand) and never re-applied for a visa. Now I have been here an additional 4 years with nothing. My passport expired, and I have just received my new one. Now I want to go through the process of getting a FM3, but I have no bank account and no way of showing my income. I have been offered a job in the city but I'm not sure this will be enough to acquire my visa. I receive money from the UK but not via banks... it is via Western Union. I realize this is a very silly situation to be in, but here I am! I´m living at the beach in El Cuyo, Yucatan. Any help with the process or am I in a hole?

Thanks Steven.

The people at Yucatan Expatriate Services are working with INM to understand the new law reform from last month. There should be an article about it soon... but we do know that none of the changes in the reform are yet in effect.
