It has a great visual sensation, if only an average taste sensation.

Four of us went to Hacienda Xcanatun for dinner last night to celebrate the publication of my book Divine Divorce. We sat out on the patio over looking the court yard with huge palm trees. It was a beautiful and magical setting. Piano and trumpet music played in the background. At our table we had raw oysters, Caesar salad, duck pate and cream of chaya soup as starters. For dinner we had soft shelled crab served on a bed of corn, grilled salmon and pork chuleta stuffed in corn masa. All was elegantly presented and the taste sensation was wonderful. Service was attentive and excellent. The menu was in Spanish and English. Total cost for food, drinks and wine $2,400 pesos.

I must say it has been a challenging 11 years (in December), but reviews like the ones above are what make the undertaking worthwhile. Thank you all. "Nuestra casa es su casa".

for Casa de Piedra Restaurant (at Xcanatun) almost a decade after my first visit there. It is now many more years later and I still feel the same way about it - and I still recommend the French Toast.

We hope to take in as much as we can on those few short days... We will be traveling to Mexico for the 2nd time since our first time was our Honeymoon in 2007 in which we fell in love with the country...

Please let us know the best cultural ruins to visit and other places to get the best feel for the Yucatan... Love this website so keep up the excellent work!!!

Well, dear friends, for us the 'Hacienda' as we call it (as if it were the only one...) is PARADISE. Whenever we feel we need a 'rest' from the hard life of Merida (and we mean this jokingly, of course) we splurge at the Hacienda! Special offers of "stay 3 nights pay for 2" in one of the suites and dinner every night at the restaurant is pure luxury. The service is EXCELLENT, the people are friendly, the place is a wonderfully restored jewel. I have travelled in many, many different countries and I personally consider the 'Hacienda' one of the most beautiful hotels I have seen and stayed at. Of course the price is HIGH, but where in Europe (I compare to Europe, as I am European) can you experience pure luxury and ambiance for 325 dollars a night? and this is not one of those anonymous 'sheraton-hilton-etc' which look the same whether you are in Beijing, Singapore or New York. This is a place with a wonderful atmosphere, high ceilings, old furniture, woodcarvings, perfectly restored.

We LOVE this place! and we LOVE the fact that there are NO TV SETS in the rooms.....:=) Who needs a TV in a place like this?

Xcanatun is one of the highlights of Merida.

Great service, excellent food, beautiful setting. It doesn't get much better than this, in my opinion. I'd be surprised that anyone didn't love it. The only downside is that prices are high enough and the location a bit remote enough (from central Merida) that we can't dine there for every meal.

We once had a table of six seated promptly for a wonderful afternoon meal, while Governor Patron and several dozen acolytes dined in a private room. Their staff and kitchen were obviously quite occupied, but our service and food was excellent as always.

    Highly recommended.

It's worth a trip to Hacienda Xcanatun if only to have dinner. It's one of my favorites. In my book, it ranks with Nectar, Trotter's, Teya, etc.

We visited the hacienda Xcanatun 2 years ago. Awesome experience! The tour guides and the other employees well informed.

These first restaurant listings slipped out... we had meant to put a lot more in before we announced this.

Anyway, your comment, Antonio, are exactly the idea. We'll put up the info about the restaurant, and we're inviting our readers to add their comments about the restaurants... eventually turning this topic into a very valuable resource, don't you think?

    Thanks for your comment!
